The Lebanese oud player Rabih Abou-Khalil is one of the Middle East’s most visionary musicians. Together with Anouar Brahem, amongst others, he introduced the classical Arabic oud into contemporary jazz. With his dazzling virtuosity and audacious approach, Abou-Khalil created a musical language in which east and west continually blend together. From European classical through Arabic lyrical to frenzied jazz improvisations and even a touch of rock ’n roll: this master of the oud presents original compositions which sound both new and familiar. At Walden Festival, Rabih Abou-Khalil shares the stage with close associate Jarrod Cagwin on drums and violin virtuoso Mateusz Smoczynski.
