Event Details

The Andrés Coll Project brings together a core of musicians who amalgamate the research of folk music from their own cultures with the avant-garde spirit and free improvisation. With a joyful, dynamic and unifying character, the group offers a deep and liberating musical journey open to all kinds of audiences and all kinds of scenarios. Folklore is music for all ages and all ears, grounded and moving, while the avant-garde spirit evokes a sense of freedom, above prejudices and preconceptions. The fusion of folklore and avant-garde creates a vibrant music of great energy and dynamism, fresh, joyful and original, transcending barriers and formalisms, inspiring the unity of body and soul. The group investigates the archaeology of musical cultures, in the midst of which Ibizan folklore appears as a treasure vault not yet opened of pristine Phoenician, Egyptian, Byzantine and ancient Greek sounds, connected with North African Gnawa traditions and Caucasian music, digging for the roots of a singular primordial music, the original language of humans. Andrés Coll, born in Ibiza in 2000, is a multifaceted vibraphonist who amalgamates a keen and broad musical sense, an unquestionable virtuosity as a performer and a stoic commitment to the art. From his childhood, as a devoted member of a local folk group, he became aware of the deep and wide roots of the music of his native land. Coll has quietly matured as a performer, composer and researcher, devoting himself to primitive music, Bach, Bartók, contemporary music, modern jazz and free improvisation. His open and consistent mentality, a demanding sense of quality and his uncomplicated attitude make him a frequent and welcome companion of the region’s musical elite and, increasingly, of like-minded and like-minded leading artists from all over the world.
